Portugal invests in cork merchandising to promote environmental sustainability at HANNOVER MESSE 2022
Did you know that Portugal is the world’s largest producer of cork, representing 50% of world production and over 60% of the volume of exports? At HANNOVER MESSE 2022, the merchandising of “Portugal Makes Sense” included bags produced using cork yarn by the Portuguese company Têxteis Penedo.
The main topics of the Portugal-Germany relationship with its many dimensions and opportunities provided the theme of a cycle of “Portugal Makes Sense” conferences, held during the four days of the HANNOVER MESSE and attended by dozens of entrepreneurs and the main government officials responsible for economic management.
The film Portugal Makes Sense leads to the discovery of Portugal through the cardinal points of the astrolabe in alignment with the logo created for the Portuguese participation in the Hannover fair.
The 109 Portuguese companies participating in the HANNOVER MESSE 2022, with Portugal as the Partner Country, made thousands of commercial and investment contacts during the four days of the event, returning from Germany with well-founded expectations of closing deals and partnerships following this action to promote Portuguese industry and technology at the world’s largest industry and technology fair.
Several members of the German Government and other public institutions valued the Portuguese presence at HANNOVER MESSE, underlining the need to rediscover Portugal as a modern economy, generator of innovation and protagonist in renewable energies, digitalisation and environmental sustainability.
In times of supply bottlenecks and political unrest, Portugal is positioning itself as a European alternative for industry. The Partner Country of the HANNOVER MESSE is also convincing more and more German companies.
The ambition of the national strategy for hydrogen is to make Portugal an active contributor to the decarbonisation of Europe, achieving the national goal of a green economy by 2050, said Elvira Fortunato, Minister of Science and Technology, at the 7th Portugal Makes Sense Conference, at HANNOVER MESSE 2022.
The Minister of the Economy of Lower Saxony, Germany, visited the Pavilion of Portugal, at HANNOVER MESSE 2022, on Wednesday afternoon, June 1st.
The Vice-Chancellor of Germany and Minister of Economy and Climate Change of the Federal Republic, Robert Habeck, and the Portuguese Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs, António Costa Silva, visited some booths of Portuguese high technology companies, making an enthusiastic reference to Portugal and the capabilities of the Portuguese companies present at HANNOVER MESSE.
“Technological Partnerships for Success” was the theme of Portugal Makes Sense conferences, attended by the Portuguese Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs, António Costa Silva, the Member of the Board of the Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce of Germany (DIHK), Volker Treier, and the Ambassadors of Portugal in Germany, Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, and of Germany in Portugal, Martin Ney.
The Opening Ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE 2022 was co-chaired by the German Chancellor and the Portuguese Prime Minister, underlining the special status given to the Portuguese representation at the Hannover Messe, with more than one hundred companies as Partner Country of this year’s fair.

The seminar “On the way to Hannover” took place in Porto, on the 20th of April and was attended by a large number of the more than 100 companies that will be present at the HANNOVER MESSE 2022.
