Germany’s Vice-Chancellor praises Portugal and suggests it’s time to rediscover the country

The Vice-Chancellor of Germany and Minister of Economy and Climate Change of the Federal Republic, Robert Habeck, and the Portuguese Minister of Economy and Maritime Affairs, António Costa Silva, visited some booths of Portuguese high technology companies, making an enthusiastic reference to Portugal and the capabilities of the Portuguese companies present at HANNOVER MESSE.

Robert Habeck was welcomed by Luís Castro Henriques, Chairman and CEO of AICEP, who guided the two officials on a detailed tour of the main pavilion of the Portugal Makes Sense mission.

The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action showed interest in the technical details of many of the projects presented there, in particular the ISP Mars probe, a cork-covered capsule that will soon bring samples of Martian soil back to Earth.

Robert Habeck also expressed interest in the ultralight recyclable plastic bicycle developed by Abimota and the brand-new 3D printing method for complex moulds presented at the Hannover fair by Ferespe.

Another booth visited by the German and Portuguese ministers was that of CEiiA, which presents the MAANTA project – Non-Invasive Monitoring of Marine Animals, a set of miniaturised devices that attach to medium- and large-sized marine animals to study their habits and make specific measurements on the seabed.

The German official congratulated the Portuguese Minister of the Economy and Maritime Affairs on the high level of Portuguese industrial representation, and said it was important to deepen partnership relations between companies from the two countries.

António Costa Silva mentioned to the Vice-Chancellor Portugal’s strategic decision to be an active agent of the transformation of the European economy towards decarbonisation, digitalisation and strengthening of value chains with a productive base closer to consumers.
