Did you know that Portugal is the world’s largest producer of cork, representing 50% of world production and over 60% of the volume of exports? At HANNOVER MESSE 2022, the merchandising of “Portugal Makes Sense” included bags produced using cork yarn by the Portuguese company Têxteis Penedo.

German-Portuguese Journalism Awards
At this year’s edition of the Hannover Messe, Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs João Gomes Cravinho presided over the second edition of the German-Portuguese Journalism Prize. This prize is awarded annually to journalistic texts published in Portugal and Germany on the culture, society, economy and politics of the other country.

Starting at the Portugal Pavilion, Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the beginning of the fair visiting Portuguese and German companies from the most representative sectors of activity in this edition of the largest industrial fair in the world. The Portuguese Prime Minister visited the 109 Portuguese companies participating in this fair, present in the engineering, digital, automation and energy pavilions.

The Portuguese Prime Minister, the German Chancellor and the Chairman & CEO of AICEP today opened this year’s edition of HANNOVER MESSE with Portugal Partner Country.
António Costa and Olaf Scholz stated their confidence in the potential that the Hannover fair offers for a more sustainable and efficient future and in the strengthening of economic relations between Portugal and Germany.
The welcome ceremony, held at the central Portugal Pavilion, opened with a speech by Luís Castro Henriques, AICEP Chairman & CEO, who explained to the audience the reasons why Portugal Makes Sense to invest, to make partnerships and to innovate. Portugal Makes Sense is the motto that Portugal took to HANNOVER MESSE with 109 companies, the largest Portuguese participation ever.

Kickoff Press Conference 2022
AICEP Chairman & CEO Luís Castro Henriques was present at the kick-off press conference of the HANNOVER MESSE 2022, which took place on the 24th of May, in Hannover, to make a brief presentation on Portugal’s participation as the Partner Country.
Luís Castro Henriques sought to demonstrate to German and European industry why Portugal is the ideal country to make partnerships and investments and highlighted talent as the most distinctive and competitive factor of the country.
