Very positive balance for Portuguese companies
The more than one hundred Portuguese companies attending HANNOVER MESSE’22 made thousands of contacts that will result in good business follow-ups, said Luís Castro Henriques, AICEP Chairman & CEO, at the closing press conference. Engineering, Digital, Energy and Automation were the areas that sparked the greatest curiosity, in particular hydrogen and sustainability, industrial metaverse/digital twins, robotics, cybersecurity, metalworking and start-ups.
“HANNOVER MESSE is the Champions League Fair and Portuguese companies showed, once again, that they already play in this league”, said Luís Castro Henriques.
AICEP Chairman & CEO also said that HANNOVER MESSE will bring more investment to Portugal, more partnerships to the Portuguese companies and hundreds of millions of euros more in exports over the next three years.

AICEP Chairman & CEO, Luís Castro Henriques, was present at the press conference marking the start of HANNOVER MESSE 2022, which took place this Tuesday, 24 May, in Hannover, to present Portugal’s participation as a partner country.
Luís Castro Henriques sought to demonstrate to German and European industry why Portugal is the ideal country for partnerships and investments, with talent as the most distinctive and competitive factor.
AICEP Chairman & CEO noted that large German companies already create and produce innovative solutions in Portugal and that, at this moment, around 550 German companies are already operating in Portugal. One of those examples is Bosch, which was represented in this press conference by Rolf Najork, Member of the Board of Robert Bosch GmbH.
“In Portugal it’s not just about being “Made in Portugal”, it’s also about being “Created and Invented in Portugal”. Bosch is a great example of this. This is a company that in the last 6 years has invested more than 200 million euros in Portugal just in R&D. This is not just innovative or production facilities. These are R&D projects. Pure talent. This is what we want to show you with Portugal Makes Sense”, Luís Castro Henriques said.
The Chairman of AICEP also highlighted Portugal’s commitment to energy transition: “Portugal has been committed to energy transition for almost 20 years. Portugal is a sustainable country. 60% of our electricity production is based on renewable energies. Furthermore, Portugal is the 4th country in Europe to stop producing electricity through coal.”
HANNOVER MESSE 2022 takes place from 30 May to 2 June. Portugal is the Partner Country and is present with 109 companies from the engineering, digital, energy and automation clusters.
